April 23, Fineko/abc.az. Chinese researchers have made a breakthrough in nuclear power engineering - for the first time in history, they have reloaded fuel in a thorium reactor without shutting it down. Previously, this was not possible, since molten salts are used as a coolant in such reactors.
ABC.AZ informs that thorium reactors have significant advantages over traditional uranium analogues.
They produce less radioactive waste and have higher fuel efficiency.
The Chinese authorities have already announced plans to build a more powerful experimental reactor, which is scheduled to start operating by 2030.
