Minimum rainfall since 1931 fell in spring in Germany and central Europe

May 12, Fineko/abc.az. In the spring of 2025, 40 liters of precipitation per sq m fell in Germany from February to mid-April, which is the lowest level since 1931, when observations began, ABC.AZ reports, referring to the German Meteorological Service (DWD).

Precipitation levels are 88 liters or 68% lower than the average for the period from 1991 to 2020. 35% of precipitation fell in the north and north-west of Germany, 50-80% in the south-east of the country. In addition to the drought, night frosts are possible from 11 to 15 May, which will have bad effect on corn and sugar beet seedlings.

February and March 2025 turned out to be arid from the Benelux countries to Sweden and further along the coast to the Baltic republics of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

At the same time, southern Europe suffered from excess rains. In the southern regions of Spain and Portugal, 165% of precipitation fell, and in some areas more than 200%.
