May 15, Fineko/abc.az. TikTok's video platform violates European rules for online advertising.
ABC.AZ reports, quoting European Commission’s deputy head Henna Virkkunen, that TikTok does not provide sufficient information about targeted advertising, does not specify its sponsors, and the search in the archive of ads is unsatisfactory. This prevents the detection of fakes and violates the right of citizens to know who is behind the advertisement.
The EC believes that transparency is especially important amidthe upcoming elections. The platform has previously been under investigation for unmarked election advertising in Romania.
