September 22, Fineko/abc.az. The U.S. administration is developing a plan to resume domestic production of enriched uranium as soon as possible.
ABC.AZ reports, quoting country's Interior Secretary Douglas Burgum.
"It is unacceptable for America to buy uranium from Russia, so Energy Secretary Chris Wright and I are working very hard to develop a plan that will allow the U.S. to resume production of enriched uranium domestically as soon as possible," he added.
On September 15, the U.S. Secretary of Energy said that the country was not yet ready to completely abandon Russian uranium due to its high dependence on supplies from the Russian Federation. According to Bloomberg, Russia supplies about a quarter of the enriched uranium needed for 94 American nuclear reactors, which generate about a fifth of the electricity in the U.S. The rapid termination of these supplies is estimated to endanger about 5% of the country's electricity generation.
