October 6, Fineko/abc.az. The German government plans to extend the exemption from paying the automobile tax on electric vehicles until 2035, ABC.AZ reports, quoting Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.
According to the current rules, the tax exemption for newly registered electric vehicles with rechargeable batteries expires on January 1, 2026.
The bill extends tax incentives for electric vehicles for five years until the end of 2035, encouraging their purchase and ownership. The benefit applies to cars registered for the first time before December 31, 2030.
The changes will require adjustments to the Transport Tax Law and will cost the budget hundreds of millions of euros in lost revenue.
Amid falling sales and competition with China, Germany is preparing measures to support the transition to eco-friendly mobility, including possible "social leasing" of electric vehicles, similar to the French model.
