October 6, Fineko/abc.az. The Hungarian government has no plans to introduce a single European currency in the country, the euro, because it does not want to establish even closer ties with the European Union, which is in danger of disintegration.
ABC.AZ informs that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban made this statement in an interview published by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce & Industry on the Economx Money Talks podcast.
"This issue will definitely not be on my agenda," Orban said about Hungary's prospects for joining the euro zone.
He explained that "the EU is being shaken up now," so he would not like to further link the fate of his country with this association.
"Unless radical changes take place, the European Union will remain only a temporary episode in our lives," the prime minister said.
Earlier, the Hungarian government has reiterated that the country is not yet ready to introduce the euro, as it does not meet the Maastricht criteria. Such criteria are established by the Treaty on the EU of 1992 and relate to the financial and economic indicators necessary for joining the eurozone. They are used to assess the stability of the financial system, the price level and the stability of the exchange rate.
