December 11, Fineko/abc.az. Tourists in Turkey are increasingly complaining as they have faced issues with businesses refusing old-style or worn U.S. dollar banknotes, especially larger bills like $50s and $100s, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Turkish newspaper Turkiye.
"The number of complaints is growing in exchange offices and ATMs. Many retail outlets and financial institutions have stopped accepting $50 bills, as well as some older versions of hundred dollar bills. This creates serious inconveniences for both tourists and locals," the article says.
According to the publication, the tightening is linked with an increase in the number of counterfeit dollars, which is why many sellers either refuse to accept such bills at all, or exchange them at a rate 2-3 Turkish lira lower than the market rate.
