January 16, Fineko/abc.az. Amid mass protests and economic instability, Iranians have increased their bitcoin purchases, ABC.AZ reports, referring to Chainalysis.
Company's report says that compared to the period before the protests (from November 1 to December 27, 2025) and from December 28, 2025 to January 8, 2026 (the time of the Internet blackout in Iran), both the average volume of daily transactions in dollar terms and the number of daily transfers to personal wallets increased significantly.
Over comparable periods, the number of small transactions (up to $100) increased by 78%, average amounts (up to $1,000) - by 123%, large transactions (up to $10,000) by 262%, and larger transfers by 55%.
According to analysts, during the protests, Iranians are buying bitcoins much faster than in the previous period. This behavior is regarded as a "rational reaction" to the sharp depreciation of the Iranian rial and points to the role of cryptocurrencies as a financial lifeline.
