March 3, Fineko/abc.az. After the joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28 and Tehran's retaliatory attacks on the Middle East, thousands of passengers faced flight cancellations and airspace closures.
ABC.AZ reports that the conflict has already hit the Asian aviation industry: shares of Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Singapore Airlines and Japan Airlines fell more than by 5%, while Qantas lost over 10%. Investors are afraid of rising fuel prices, additional costs and disruptions in routes.
Experts estimate that the global commercial aviation sector could lose more than $1 bn. Even a one-day shutdown of a major hub such as Dubai can result in losses of up to $215 million. The closure of hub airports in Qatar and the UAE could cause global disruptions to air traffic.
