March 4, Fineko/abc.az. In 2025, fewer than 300 banks may remain in Russia amid active mergers and acquisitions.
ABC.AZ informs that this is reported by RBC with reference to a study by agency Expert RA. Market consolidation will increase due to completion of already announced deals and new integrations.
According to the Bank of Russia, at the beginning of the year there were 306 banks operating in the country (212 with universal and 94 with basic licenses). By February 1, one bank, NMB, had lost its license. In 2024, the regulator revoked 12 licenses, and last year - six.
Experts also note a possible increase in the number of non-bank credit institutions and the ongoing change of ownership of small banks.
