Important statement about dollar rate in Azerbaijan

March 5, Fineko/abc.az. The processes taking place in the Middle East and Iran have led to an increase in prices. This leads people to believe that the US dollar will rise in the near future, too. But that's what ordinary citizens think, while experts rule it out.

Azerbaijan Society of Appraisers’s chair Vugar Oruj noted that the Central Bank regulates this process in Azerbaijan. In his comment for ABC.AZ, he noted that no changes in the dollar exchange rate are expected in Azerbaijan.

Nevertheless, the economist also emphasizes that certain unpleasant situations arise:

"All economic processes show that the demand for dollars is growing, and there are restrictions on the basic trust. The war conditions and tensions in the region as a whole ultimately increase the attention and demand for the dollar, whether in our country or in neighboring countries. From this angle, this process may also have impact on Azerbaijan. However, considering that monetary policy in Azerbaijan is currently regulated by the state, and the processes taking place in the market in one form or another do not affect monetary policy. If the exchange rate of the manat against the dollar in Azerbaijan were determined by the free market, then, of course, an increase in the value of the dollar would be inevitable. However, as is well known, the exchange rate indicator has been held at a stable level for a long time, which is manifestation of government management of monetary policy.

At the same time, it can be noted that as military conflicts develop, local currencies gradually lose their value due to inflation. The current situation leads to the strengthening of the dollar in the market and, naturally, increases the need for this currency."
